Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs:
- Lucky Bamboo:
Lucky Bamboo is not actually a true bamboo plant. A member of the Lily family it's actual name is Dracaena sanderiana. We get a lot of questions on this $.10 consumer item, but we don't carry this plant. This plant grows in water and in no light, such as an interior room. Change the water once a week. There, now you know as much about Dracaena sanderiana or Lucky Bamboo as I do.
- How many plants are in a container?:There is only one plant per container. What you are buying is a well rooted bamboo in a nursery container that will reproduce. The number and size of culms (or canes), will vary. At least one, usually 2 or more culms per container. The key to buying a bamboo plant is the health of it's rhizome system, not the amount of top growth that is displaying. A healthy and well rooted rhizome system will more quickly reproduce new shoots than a plant with a lot of top growth and a poor rhizome system. See the link What is bamboo? for more information.
- What size are the bamboos?:Giant timber bamboos are manually intensive to stuff them into a little container. Depending upon the container size and the method used to grow them out, they tend to be pretty small compared to their full grove size. Large bamboos are usually cropped down in order to be able to ship them. Don't worry though, it will soon be large enough that you would soon be hard pressed to find the original culm that was shipped to you in the first place.
